The UK Space Agency, to be launched April 1, has a new logo that has generated a lot of discussion. Created by Folio Creative, the mark certainly has a sense of energy and movement. Some have criticized it for being too prototypically British—Union flag, red-white-and-blue, plus Gill Sans.
But perhaps the best criticism so far is from Doctor Who fans, who claim it looks just like the British Rocket Group logo used in the TV show. That is perhaps a bit too far out.

Great mark. That graphic is simple but shows a lot of energy!

Waaaaaay too retrospective in my book, and a very obvious design solution. Done to death...

The »London 2012« olympic logo was/is bulls..t and this one is even more bulls..t. Where are the good ol' times of good ol' British graphic design? Shoot it into space! 3-2-1-zero!

It perfectly works for me.

While I agree that it is an obvious design solution and that it could be a lot better. Does it not deliver what it needs to? One understands the connection between what the organization does and the imagery. After all it is a space program and it doesn't need to be plagued by clever messages that create an emotional response from the viewer.
Sometimes the 'does what it says on the tin approach' is both appropriate and favorable. With that said I still don't like it, but you're never going to please everyone. Especially designers.
